Donors Choose Project for my Vocational Area

I love Donorschoose! I love creating projects and hope that they get funded. Well I did a project on adding new tasks to my vocational area in my classroom. I was so excited to see it get funded and the materials arrived last week. I could have died when I saw the materials. There were 8 huge buckets filled with prevocational tasks. I have no idea where I will be storing these containers, but I will worry about that when I put the tasks together. That will be another blog for another day. For now you can enjoy looking at these huge containers of fun items for my students!

New Year!

It has been a crazy few months. My health has not been the greatest and I have been preparing to get back to school to a Masters Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis with an Emphasis in Autism. While dealing with these things and keeping my classroom up and running I seemed to have fallen behind on my blog. I am going to work hard to create a new blog post for everyone. I would also love to share what I am learning in my classes along the way as well.  Happy New Year to everyone and I wish everyone luck on the second half of the school!

TEACCH Task Friday!!

It is Friday and time to see some new tasks so let's get started.
This is a color sorting task. The students work from left to right and then place the bucket in a finished basket.

This is a sight word matching task that the students complete from left to right.

This is a puzzle that my students work on that I wanted to share.
This is a math task where the student sort the right dollar amount in the right bin. This is a task where I used recycled baby wipe containers. This is how you can use some of the recycled containers in a task.
This is all for now till next Friday!

TEACCH Task Friday!!

It's that time of the week again. It is time to see some new TEACCH tasks. I have been asked in the past how I create so many task, because it can get expensive buying containers and materials to make these tasks. I agree with you everyone. Where I live there is a place called Treasures for Teachers. This place is amazing. Many different companies donate to this place. You can get many different containers for a cheap price or they have a free section where you can get not only containers, but other iteams for sale. Treasures for Teachers also has school supplies and tons of odds and ins that can be used to create tasks. This store is an autism teachers dream. There is a yearly membership of $30, but it is worth it.   Here is the website for the store: http://www.treasures4teachers.org/ .

This is not the only place that I get containers. I collect used bottles and empty food containters from my family.

With these containers I will duct tape the containers so that they look nice and the containers will hold up.  Sometimes you just have to get creative on how to make tasks.

I also use Boardmaker Plus, Boardmaker Online, Boardmaker Studio, and Classroom Suites to create different tasks. I do have a copy of all of these programs that I use. I purchased a couple of them and was lucky enough to be given one of them. Most school districts will purchase these and you can use them at your school.

Now on to some of the tasks that I have created.

This is a vocational task where the students will start from the left and work right. They would start by taking the DVD case and opening it. They would them take a a cd and place it in the case and put it in the finished basket on the right.

This is a math task. The students would sort the pieces into the correct basket. They can sort by colors or they can sort by the fraction on the cube.

This is a vocational task as well. This task I purchased on Teacher Pay Teacher. Dianne Matthew's from Adaptive Tasks came up with this wonderful task. For this task the students are creating crayon boxes. They put one of every color into the crayon box (or pocket) and place it in the finished basket.

This is a math task and a fine motor task. The students will take a colored nut and match it to the bolt. They will then put them together and place them in the finished basket when they are done.

That is it for this weeks tasks. Feel free to comment if you have any questions.

Work With Teacher Area

Today I am going to talk about my work with teacher area. This is the area in the classroom where I will work one on one with the students to work on their IEP goals as well as other goals that I feel would help them in the classroom.
This area is set up like the other areas. My students need to heave every part of their day structured. This needs to include the different work areas in the classroom. For work with teacher they need to have a schedule on what they work on during this time. Their schedule is on the left side of the table. This includes the numbers 1-3. These are the numbers that they will match to the numbered buckets on the desk. They will pull out the task we will work on the task together and then I will have them complete it independently with me correcting their mistakes as they work. They will complete 10 trials for the task them put it in the finished basket on the left. They will complete each of the three activities and then check their schedule for the next activity.

What activities do you work on with the student. I begin by looking at their IEP goals. Once I know what their goals are, I will either create activities for them to learn. These will be for math, reading, language arts, writing, and daily living skills. Once they learn these skills, then I will place them in their independent work stations to practice these tasks. Also when working with the students I like to place the student on the left side of me by a wall so they are unable to run away. I have some students that will sometimes become upset when it is time to work so they would scoot their chair out and try to run. This will help keep them in the area and focused.

TEACCH Task Friday!!

I hope everyone has had a good week. Sorry I have not been able to blog all week. Very busy with meetings and not feeling well. Plus it is a three day weekend so I am excited. So this blog is going to be short but I wanted to get a blog out there on TEACCH Task Friday.

This first task is a matching task for an ocean theme. The students will take a index card with a picture on it. They will look in the red bucket for the card that matches and then they put it in the finished basket. This task can be done for numerous subjects. For example, the cards could hav coins on them, they could have letters from the alphabet or they could have a picture and then find the word to match the picture. There are many ways this task can be done.

This task is one of my students favorites. This is a flashlight task. For this task the student starts on the left side and gets the pieces they need to put the flashlight together. Once they get their pieces they will then get the flashlight and put the pieces together. Once the flashlight is together they will put it in the finished basket.

That is all for this weeks tasks, till next week. Enjoy your weekend!!

TEACCH Tasks Friday

Today is going to be the first post for TEACCH Tasks Friday. Every Friday I will be sharing tasks that are set up following the TEACCH Model approach.  I will also give a shor explanation of the tasks. These tasks will focus on a variety of things: such as life skills, math, reading, vocational skills, writing skills, and more.
1.
This task is a fine motor. The students work on putting a pencil grip and an eraser on a pencil. The task is done from left to right and after the put on the pencil grip and the eraser they will put the pencil in the finished basket.

2.
This is another fine motor task. This task is also completed from left to right. The students begin by opening the clear container and placing the blue foam in the container. They will replace the lid and put the  finished container in the finshed bucket.

3.
This is a life skills task and it is done from left to write. The student will pull out a board and match the condiments to the correct the food. Once the board is complete they will put it in the finished basket.

4
This is a math task and it focuses on weight. The student will take the item and decided if the item weighs more than 100 pounds or less them 100 pounds. After they complete each board they will place it in the finished basket.
5.
This is a math task. The students will decide if they have enough money to buy the object by placing the card in the square that says I have enough money or I don't have enough money. When they complete each card they will place it in the finished basket.

These are the tasks for this week, stay tuned for next weeks tasks. If you would like to share some of your tasks be sure to comment on this post and send me some pictures and I would love to share the tasks. You can also email me as well at embracingdifferences@outlook.com
